Kimberley’s to Pilbara

On leaving Broome we decided to head down towards Port Hedland in easy stages. As we were leaving however I found out the friend I was intending to visit had to make and emergency trip to Perth and wasn’t arriving back until Thursday. After a quick review Max and I decided that we would just bypass Port Hedland initially and visit Cossack, Dampier etc. and the then head back up as it wasn’t too far out of our way given that next stop from their would be the Karajini National Park.
DSCF1799The first couple of days were pretty uneventful, although managing to get Max to do the washing up one morning was particularly special!
DSCF1806DSCF1800Monday night we headed into Cape Keraudren for no other reason than it looked like it should be worth it by its position on the map. On arriving we decided it had been a good choice with it being the first time we had had the chance to camp virtually on the beach since we left Baird bay in South Australia (and this time it was considerably warmer).
DSCF1807DSCF1808DSCF1803Max spent much of the afternoon once again constructing breakwaters, although he was quite disappointed when I pointed out to him that he was building above then water line and the tide was on its way out, having only recently reached high tide. This meant he didn’t get a chance to test his construction methods, but he had a good time anyway and managed to collect a few nice shells. Later that evening we also went for another walk with Max once again going into construction mode while I went fossicking for shells to take home to Liz and Harry. Both of us ended up being very successful.
DSCF1822As a treat that night we started watching the fist instalment of Lord of the Rings. Initially we intended to watch the whole thing, but we had some gremlins mid-movie and by the time we sorted them out we then found that the lap top ran out of battery about 2/3rds of the way through. This didn’t really matter however as it just gave us something to look forward to tonight.

Other than a range of termite nests crowned predominantly with hard hats (although a few did have assorted other things decorating them) it was again fairly uneventful. After passing Whim CreekDSCF1832 we pulled into a little campsite adjacent to the Sherlock RiverDSCF1835 which leaves us a short trip into Cossack tomorrow morning. It also seemed appropriate given it runs through Sherlock Station, which is where my Grandmother grew up.DSCF1834DSCF1836DSCF1837
